South Korea: Media Production and Cultural Studies in South Korea

(Summer Session II)
The Media Production in South Korea program will provide students the opportunity to work on a great range of production techniques and tools of the medium, including electronic media production theory, shooting on-location, graphics, audio and post-production. Students will not only explore the diversity of South Korea, but also be able to document and create a story of their personal experience there. Dongguk University, located in the heart of Seoul, will provide an ideal setting for studying media production and cultural studies within a South Korean environment. Participants will work collaboratively with Dongguk University students on the pre-production, production and post-production of short video projects. Students will also take a streetwise course on Korean language and culture that will facilitate their understanding of traditional culture while they are shooting. The first week of the course will focus on an introduction to pre-production and production. During the second week, participants will shoot on-location in different parts of Seoul. In the third week, students will learn and apply the post-production process to their product.

- Explore the traditional aspects of Korean culture
- Create connections across Korea while producing projects
Housing is located in a Dongguk University residence hall, located on the campus. Meals will be taken on or near campus, or at restaurants during shooting periods.
This program is open to undergraduate and graduate students, all majors.

Program Fee
$1,795 (includes CISI health/travel insurance, program-related transportation in South Korea, excursions, housing, and some meals)

- Nonrefundable Deposit Due: With Application — $300
- Second Payment Due: April 8, 2016 — $748
- Final Payment Due: May 6, 2016 — $747
Additional Costs
- Brooklyn College tuition and fees for three credits.
- Out-of-pocket costs ($320 estimated minimum) for personal expenses, Internet access and out-of-pocket meals.
- $1,800 for international airfare to Korea.
- Optional side trip to Japan or Jeju Island — $600.
Courses and Credits
Participants will register for one three-credit course, selecting from among the courses listed below. Final course offerings will be dependent on course enrollment.
- TVRA 3841: Multimedia Design and Production (3 credits)
- TVRA 7736X: Television Program Directing (Graduate students only — 3 credits)
Financial Aid / Scholarships
Financial aid may apply, and alternative loans are available. Scholarships that apply to this program are: Furman and SASA, among others (see Scholarship Opportunities).
How to Apply
- Complete and submit the IEGE Notification of Study Abroad/Brooklyn College Study Abroad Application.
- $300 Nonrefundable Deposit: Students will pay directly at the Brooklyn College Bursar's Office and must attach their paid receipt to their application when submitting to IEGE. Please note this deposit of $300 will only be returned if you are not accepted to the program.
