Living in Brooklyn
Welcome to Brooklyn, the most populous and culturally diverse borough in the city of New York. Brooklyn was founded nearly 400 years ago by the Dutch, including Lady Deborah Moody, the only woman to create a settlement in the New World. It's the home of the famed (and infamous) Brooklyn Dodgers, Nathan's Famous hot dog, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the prolific Brooklyn Navy Yard.
Brooklyn doesn't rest solely on its historical laurels, of course (although a trip to the Brooklyn Historical Society always proves interesting). There's plenty to do in our present-day home as well. If you're a music lover, check out the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Visit Coney Island or the New York Aquarium for the sights and amusement, or take in some sun and sand at Brighton Beach. Head to Prospect Park, the largest green space in Brooklyn, for its outdoor concerts, zoo, and recreational activities. You'll have fantastic views of the Manhattan skyline from the new Brooklyn Bridge Park.
Best of all, as a Brooklyn College student, you'll have free access to two of the borough's brightest attractions: the Brooklyn Museum and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
Brooklyn offers some of the most vibrant cultural experiences and entertainment events in the city. You'll find shops carrying everything from the creations of young fashion and home designers to exquisite couture and antiques to artisanal cheeses and Caribbean spices. With almost all of the world's cuisines represented here, you'll find restaurants featuring the finest European, Latin, African, and Asian dishes, but you'll also be able to pick up some locally grown produce at neighborhood farmers markets. For entertainment, there are clubs that feature new bands, performance art, and poetry and book readings; concert halls presenting world-class orchestras, theater, and dance companies; and galleries and festivals showcasing established and emerging artists.
Brooklyn is a mass transit hub, so you'll be able to enjoy all that the borough has to offer.
