China: Brooklyn College Study Abroad in China
May 26 – June 16, 2015
(Summer Session I)
Experience five cities in four weeks! Brooklyn College in China combines course work in speech, history, business and/or Chinese language with an extensive cultural and historical exploration of China, allowing students an opportunity to experience this unique country and culture through observation and interaction with local people and places. Participants will travel to five of the most famous and beautiful Chinese cities, including Beijing, Shanghai and Xi'an. Side trips include exploring the Forbidden City, climbing the Great Wall, and visiting Tiananmen Square, the Terracotta Warriors and various Buddhist temples, Islamic mosques and other historical and cultural sites of interest. Course selection is from among Chinese culture, history, language and intercultural perspectives (please refer to the program website for details).
All courses will be taught by Brooklyn College faculty, under the direction of Professor Shuming Lu of the Department of Speech and Communication Arts and Sciences. This program is open to undergraduate and graduate students, all majors.

Program Fee
$3,350 (includes international airfare to China, CISI health/travel insurance, program-related transportation in China, excursions, housing and some meals)
Program Fee Payment Schedule:
- Nonrefundable Deposit Due: March 20, 2015 — $450
- First Payment Due: March 24, 2015 — $1,450
- Final Payment Due: April 17, 2015 — $1,450
Additional Costs
- Brooklyn College tuition and fees for three to seven credits.
- Out-of-pocket costs ($350 estimated minimum) for personal expenses, visa, tips and out-of-pocket meals.
- Optional side trips to local tourist attractions (e.g.: Hong Kong, Yangzhou, Yellow Mountain) may also incur additional costs.
Courses and Credits
Three to seven credits may be taken in the area of Asian business, Chinese language, intercultural communications and history. Upper and Lower Core curriculum courses are offered. Final course offerings depend on enrollment. For a complete list, see the program website. Commonly offered courses are:

- CHIN 1010: Intensive Elementary Chinese

- CORC 3206: Development of the Silk Road

- SPEC 1619: Intercultural Communication
Financial Aid/Scholarships

How to Apply
- Complete the IEGE Notification of Study Abroad/Brooklyn College Study Abroad Application (pdf) and submit via e-mail to the International Education and Global Engagement office, or in person at the IEGE office, 1108 Boylan Hall.
- Complete the China program application and contact the program director to express your interest in joining the program.
- $450 Nonrefundable Deposit: Students should consult the information on the Cost & Payment section of the China program website. Please note this deposit of $450 will only be returned if you are not accepted to the program.
