The simultaneous relationship between affordability and quality was what stood out to me about Brooklyn College. Brooklyn College is a well renowned school not only in the CUNY community, but also within my family. My uncle chose an undergraduate career at Brooklyn College back in 78’ as opposed to going to Boston College for a much higher price tag, with the same caliber of education. Brooklyn College was just a strong option for me and I can proudly say I’m happy with the decision I made!
Personally, I think what makes this program particularly unique is its focus on theory rather than practice. Learning the actual basis and composition of these theories better allowed me to apply and configure based upon my individual situations. The faculty and administration was extremely approachable and open to me throughout the program. They were always willing to give advice, both in and outside of the classroom.
My career is centered around making the workplace a better experience. I've been working since the age of 15 and noticed that the largest, most impactful element to anyone's profession is their day-to-day. If you can appropriately create the most comfortable, efficient and productive workplace for an organization, you can save an organization a lot of money and time, which ultimately is a win-win for you as an employee. A productive company, means a healthier workplace, which also means more support for you both in your career and compensation. My degree has already proven to help me with this as a Recruiting Coordinator in a newly, public company.
My future plans are to become a Technical Recruiter at my current company. With more experience over the next couple of years, I see myself in a Head of Talent Acquisition position at an up and coming start up.
For incoming I/O students, time management, focus, and resilience will get you through the program. While rigorous, the program is quite rewarding and will provide you with unparalleled knowledge for your next step in the I/O field. I suggest joining the Society of Industrial/Organizational Psychologists at https://www.siop.org/ for great opportunities to network with I/O professionals across the country.
