In Solidarity with the Asian-American Community
March 19, 2021
Dear Brooklyn College Community,
The murders this week in Atlanta of eight people, including six Asian-American women, were deplorable and senseless acts of violence. They are indicative of a documented increase in anti-Asian rhetoric and hate crimes against Asian-Americans over the past year. They are also indicative of hatred toward women, racist misogyny against Asian women in particular.
At Brooklyn College, We Stand Against Hate. We work through programs, lectures, and teach-ins to understand the legacy of systemic injustice in this country, to place it in historical context, and to shed new light on it. At this time of great injustice, we must lift our voices and stand in solidarity with the Asian-American community.
I encourage you to attend a “Speak Out against Anti-Asian Violence!” on March 26 at 5 p.m., co-sponsored by the Brooklyn College Women’s Center, members of the Asian/Asian-American Faculty and Staff, and We Stand Against Hate. Register in advance for this meeting.
In Solidarity,
Michelle J. Anderson
President, Brooklyn College
