What Is Actuarial Science?
Speaker: Scott Goldstein, Guardian Life Insurance Company of America

Scott Goldstein, an actuary from Guardian Life Insurance Company of America, gave a brief overview of the actuarial profession and described retirement products and variable annuities with living benefits. Internship spots were still open for the summer. Goldstein collected résumés from interested students at this event.
This event was sponsored by the Brooklyn College Math Club and the Brooklyn College Actuarial Society.

BCAS Welcomes Benjamin Auman (ASA), Actuarial Associate at TIAA

Jefferson-Williams Lounge, 4th Floor, Student Center
Attendees were able to learn more about TIAA, a Fortune 100 financial services organization that is the leading retirement provider for people who work in the academic, research, medical, and cultural fields. Auman talked about what actuaries do at TIAA and the unique benefits his company has to offer. This event gave attendees a good grasp of what the actuarial profession is all about.

BCAS Welcomes MetLife Representatives

MetLife is a global provider of life insurance, annuities, employee benefits, and asset management. MetLife is proud to offer products and services that help individuals, families, and communities around the world expand tomorrow's possibilities. The representatives talked about what actuaries do at MetLife and the unique benefits their company has to offer. This event gave those in attendance a good grasp of what the actuarial profession is all about. The representatives also collected résumés for summer internship positions.

Introduction—General Interest Meeting

Occidental Lounge, 5th Floor, Student Center
Those interested in an exciting and prestigious career in actuarial science were encouraged to attend this General Interest Meeting to learn more about how the BCAS can help them. At this meeting, attendees got an overview of the actuarial profession and what BCAS does as a student club, such as holding networking events with professionals at top firms and conducting professional development workshops that teach the technical and interviewing skills needed to land internships/jobs. BCAS usually collaborates with other college offices, such as the Magner Career Center, when it comes to planning and holding career-related events. At regular meetings, we discuss current events and issues that actuaries face today.
This event gave attendees the chance to network with fellow Brooklyn College students who are interested in an actuarial career. Those in attendance also discovered what exciting events and activities the Society had planned for this semester.

Recruiter Tips for Actuarial Majors

Emil Chacko, executive recruiter from Actuarial Careers Inc., provided his insight on résumés, interviewing, and interacting with recruiters at job fairs. This was a fantastic opportunity to prepare for the Actuarial Society of New York (ASNY) Career Fair that took place on September 25th.
This event was being done in conjunction with the Magner Career Center. Registration was required via the BC WebCentral Career Tab.
