November 2021
Dear Brooklyn College Community,
It seems as though we just arrived to begin the school year, yet now we find ourselves in the month of November, a month that signifies the halfway mark of the fall semester. We have shifted from the excitement of the beginning of the school year to the meeting of continued employment and academic challenges. But, with Brooklyn College determination, we got this!
CUNY’s Vaccine Mandate
Brooklyn College continues to navigate its way through the pandemic, and CUNY has developed a vaccine mandate that the college must follow. Students, with the exception of those who have been granted a medical or religious exemption, must be vaccinated to remain enrolled in classes. COVID-19 has disproportionately affected communities of color and those who are economically disadvantaged, both in terms of contracting COVID-19 and those most likely to have not received the vaccination. I encourage you to get vaccinated for the protection of yourselves and others. Vaccinations are being provided on the Brooklyn College campus.
National Native American Heritage Month
November is National Native American Heritage Month, which celebrates the history and contributions of Native Americans. During this month, and throughout the year, we should celebrate their achievements and accomplishments.
Celebrating Diversity
November offers a plethora of opportunities to celebrate diversity. The following events take place in November:
- 11: Veterans Day/Armistice Day
- 13: World Kindness Day
- 16: International Day for Tolerance
- 17: International Students’ Day
- 20: Transgender Day of Remembrance
- 26: Thanksgiving
