Ready for Fall 2022!
August 24, 2022
Dear students, staff, and faculty,
Welcome to a new semester. I hope you had a restful summer and are ready for classes to begin tomorrow.
It was a pleasure to meet so many of our incoming students and new faculty members at orientation sessions throughout the day yesterday, which were held in person for the first time since 2019. It was a real honor to be able to welcome so many people to our beautiful campus and their new intellectual home. We are happy you chose Brooklyn College!
We are excited to return to a pre-pandemic level of activities on campus. Opening back up for public musical and theater performances, lectures, athletics events, and art exhibitions allows us to share the work of our talented students and faculty with one another as well as the larger community. I’ve missed these events and look forward to experiencing them in person as the semester begins.
As we begin a new academic year, there may be bumps in the road. No matter what we face, I want to encourage everyone to treat one another with patience and goodwill inside and outside the classroom. Everyone at the college deserves to feel safe, respected, and protected. As always, we are committed to fostering an environment where all students, staff, and faculty work, teach, and learn together, free from any form of discrimination or bias.
We will continue to prioritize safety regarding public health. The college’s latest COVID-19 Plan is online. Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test is required to enter our campus, and masks are encouraged. Our COVID-19 testing site is open in the Student Center for free testing. Positive cases should be reported here. At the city level, certain groups of people may now be eligible for monkeypox vaccination; you can find information on eligibility here. On campus, the Brooklyn College Health Clinic can assess for symptoms of COVID-19 or monkeypox, answer questions, and make referrals. CUNY will continue to work with government health agencies and experts to provide our community with the soundest guidance possible.
For our staff and faculty, the Division of Finance and Administration will hold a “Meet the Team Open Forum” on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at 11 a.m. There, you can meet the division’s leadership and learn how each area is working to support the college’s goals. You can register for the open forum here.
Let’s celebrate the start of the new academic year! Our wonderful Student Government Association will host an outdoor ice cream social tomorrow, Thursday, August 25, from 12:30-2:30 p.m. in the West Quad. I’ll be there with CUNY Chancellor Félix V. Matos Rodríguez—and Buster the Bulldog! I hope all students can join us. See you there!
Yours sincerely,
Michelle J. Anderson
President, Brooklyn College
