Since 2006, Brooklyn College has supplemented its rich curriculum and programming in women's and gender studies by hiring a leading scholar to serve in the role of Visiting Endowed Chair in Women's and Gender Studies. Endowed chairs demonstrate their commitment to diversity and inclusiveness through their research, teaching, and/or service at Brooklyn College.
Endowed chairs:
- Teach and advise students in four courses during the year, including the introductory Women's and Gender Studies course each semester, courses in their specialty, and a preferred course in feminist theories. Courses may be cross-listed with WGST-affiliated interdisciplinary programs (Africana Studies, Children and Youth Studies, Judaic Studies, and Puerto Rican and Latino Studies) and departments in the humanities, social sciences, and arts.
- Share the commitment of the faculty in building the visibility of the WGST Program by organizing workshops, lecture series, and public discussions that involve students, faculty, and community members.
