  • How to Apply

How to Apply

Admission Requirements

Applicants are required to hold a bachelor's degree with:

  • an overall GPA of 3.00 or better,
  • a minimum of 12 credits in psychology, and
  • courses in psychological statistics and in research methods, with a grade of B or better in both courses.

The GRE is not required.

Application Deadline

Applications are due March 1 and will be considered until all program spaces are filled.

International Applicants

International transcripts must be evaluated by a professional agency accredited by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). If you received your baccalaureate (undergraduate) degree or master's (graduate) degree from an institution where English is not the sole official language of instruction, you must submit an official score from TOEFL or IELTS. The minimum language requirement for the program is 61 (TOEFL-IBT) or 6.0 (IELTS). See here for more information.

Application Procedure

  • Complete an online application form.
    • The application submission portal is here.
    • Make sure you download, fill out, and submit the fact sheet (pdf) with your application.
    • See here for general information about applying to master’s programs at Brooklyn College.
  • Submit supporting documents to the Office of Graduate Admissions. The following documents should be mailed to the office with this cover sheet (pdf). Applications will not be considered unless they include the following supporting documents:
    • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.
    • A personal research statement essay. In a maximum of three pages, introduce yourself and tell us about your personal background, research interests and goals, and reasons for applying to the program. You should also identify at least two potential Department of Psychology faculty mentors who you are interested in working for your master's thesis project. We encourage prospective students to reach out to potential faculty mentors by e-mail to learn more about potential mentorship opportunities in the program.
  • Two letters of recommendation are also required. Recommendations can be submitted by mail or online.
    • To submit by mail, ask your recommenders to send their letters directly to the Office of Graduate Admissions in a sealed envelope. The cover sheet (pdf) should be included with the letter.
    • To submit online, provide the names and e-mail addresses of your recommenders in your online application form. Recommenders will receive an e-mail from the Office of Graduate Admissions within 48 hours of your application submission. Note that e-mails to requesters will be sent only after you have submitted your application, so be sure to allow your recommenders enough time to submit their letters before the application deadline.
