Aug. 17, 2013
This fall and winter's line-up of Brooklyn College Presents, the award-winning show produced by the Department of Television and Radio, will feature several productions that focus on conservatory events and concerts. These can be seen on CUNY-TV on Saturdays at 6:30 p.m. and on BCAT (Brooklyn Community Access Television) on Tuesday at 9 p.m. On Saturdays, Sept. 14, 21 and 28, Brooklyn College Presents will air the "Woody Guthrie Centennial Conference," directed and produced by graduate students Steve Dispensa and Steve Kur, and broadcast in three parts. Sponsored by the Grammy Museum and Woody Guthrie Archives and hosted by the H. Wiley Hitchcock Institute for Studies in American Music, this presentation, held in fall 2012, features scholars, critics and artists discussing the life and times of the famed folk musician and activist.
Then, on Saturdays, Jan. 4 and 11, "Latin Jazz Reunion," directed by Bernice Wooden, which features the reunion of famed trombonist Papo Vazquez and the conservatory's director of jazz studies and pianist/bandleader-extraordinaire Arturo O'Farrill along with the Brooklyn College Big Band, presents a night of Latin jazz in two parts.
