Description
MOVE is the focus of the workshop.
- “M” stands for motivation, motion, movement; the ability to move comfortably between theoretical and practical understanding of child movement development.
- “O” stands for observation as a means for learning and assessment of children’s learning, to develop a critical eye for movement and to stimulate skillful, reflective practice.
- “V” stands for vitality to creatively and proficiently create child-appropriate movement activities; to vitally act upon young children’s interests, imagination, and curiosity.
- “E” stands for education, aesthetics energy, effective classroom experience, encouraging curricular connections.
Goals / Content / Intentionality
In this workshop, we will explore these concepts theoretically and practically for the early childhood setting.
Presenter Bio
Herman Jiesamfoek, D.Ed., Associate Professor, Department of Early Childhood Education / Art Education, Brooklyn College and former dancer
Herman Jiesamfoek, D.Ed., is an associate professor at Brooklyn College. He has a doctorate in art and art education from Teachers College, Columbia University. A fine arts painter he has also danced professionally in various European ballet companies. He earned a master’s degree in dance and dance education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and ballet/dance teaching degrees from the Vaganova Choreographic Institute in St. Petersburg, Russia, and the Rotterdam Dance Academy in the Netherlands. His research interests center on the artistic practices and arts traditions of the Djuka people of Suriname and the arts in education.
