Description
Playworlds are a form of adult-child joint play in which adults actively enter into the fantasy play of young children as a means of promoting the development and quality of lifer of both adults and children. Well-known in Sweden and practiced in California, playworlds have just recently arrived in early childhood classrooms in Brooklyn! How did this happen and what has the process been thus far? Enjoy slides, videos and descriptions of Brooklyn playworlds work, with plenty of time for questions and discussion.
Goals / Content / Intentionality
We often think of young children’s play as something we should leave on its own, or guide adult-determined purposes. What if we consider children to be experts in an art form – play—that produces works that are of great importance to people of all ages? If we do so, our EC classrooms change. The hope is to share the playworlds pedagogy as it has developed in Brooklyn inn collaboration with Swedish EC educators.
