Brooklyn Bridge Park Pod Walk

The Theme

This pod walk takes you through the different environmentally, socially and economically conscious aspects of Brooklyn Bridge Park.

The Argument

This park is sustainable in the three pillars (as mentioned above) and, therefore, should be considered as a model for all sustainable parks in the nation.

View of the Brooklyn Bridge: This view of the Brooklyn Bridge is from the pathway behind the lawn of the park.

Granite Prospect: One of the stops on the trip. These steps were designed to imitate the stoop of Brooklyn brownstones, using local recycled material.

Benches: The benches in the park, like the steps, were made from recycled material.

Salt Marsh: This view is of the salt marsh. The piers were left intact to maintain the ecosystem that has developed around them.

EV Charging Station: The EV Charging Station consists of containers that store energy from solar panels. That energy is then used to power the maintenance vehicles of the park.

Lush Greenery: Brooklyn Bridge Park has many beautiful areas. This oasis of plants and streams creates a peaceful environment that hides one from the typical city environment all while using natural resources.

Construction Site: This is a view of one of BBP's numerous construction sites. Many developments are under way to create one of the most innovative and sustainable parks in New York City.

Pier 5 Construction: Most of piers 1 and 6 were already developed by winter 2012. However, rapid progress is happening in piers 2 to 5. This is an image of the construction of Pier 5.
