Departmental Honors, Awards, and Scholarships
Scholarship and Award Candidates
Every year the Department of Mathematics gives out thousands of dollars in scholarships and awards.
Scholarship and award candidates are selected based solely upon faculty recommendations to the Departmental Committee on Honors and Awards. With the exception of the Stanley Newman '73 Scholarship, there is no application procedure. Students wishing to determine whether they meet the qualifications for the Newman scholarship should contact the chair of the Committee on Honors and Awards, whose contact information can be obtained from the department, 1156 Ingersoll Hall, 718.951.5246.
Graduating With Departmental Honors
A student can be considered for graduation with honors in the Mathematics Department if the following minimal requirements are both satisfied:
- A GPA of at least 3.50 in advanced electives taken in the Mathematics Department
- The satisfactory completion of at least three credits in honors work at an advanced course level, or the completion of an independent study with a grade of A- or better
