B.F.A. Acting
The B.F.A. Acting Program is dedicated to developing students' abilities through rigorous, personalized training. The program accepts 10 to 12 students annually into the ensemble-based, conservatory-style training, creating a close-knit community of collaborative artists who progress through the program together. Designed to prepare students to meet the challenges of a professional acting career, the program offers intensive classes in acting technique, improvisation, movement, voice and speech, solo performance, acting with the camera, the business of acting, Shakespeare, and other period texts.
Eight to 10 shows are produced by the Department of Theater annually, directed by professional guest artists directors, faculty, and M.F.A. directing candidates. Students perform contemporary through classical material in multiple styles in the new Leonard & Claire Tow Center for the Performing Arts. The faculty is composed of award-winning working professionals including actors, directors, and casting agents who also teach throughout the New York City training community.
Alumni appear on Broadway, Off-Broadway, in regional theaters, in films, and on award-winning television programs such as Atlanta, House of Cards, Law & Order: SVU, The Deuce, Boardwalk Empire, Orange Is the New Black, Outsiders, Chicago PD, 30 Rock, The Good Wife, Chicago Med, SWAT, Containment, Loudermilk, Underground, The Haunting of Hill House, Blue Bloods, and The Blacklist.
The only B.F.A. acting program in the entire CUNY system, Brooklyn College brings together a student body as diverse as Brooklyn itself, providing phenomenal training at a fraction of the cost of other New York university programs.
Prospective students for the B.F.A. Acting Program must first submit a CUNY application for admission to Brooklyn College, and then a supplemental application (found on the departmental B.F.A. Acting webpage) directly to the B.F.A. Acting Program. Detailed instructions are on the supplemental application.
