Readings on Anti-Racism: a Resource
This year, conversations throughout the college among faculty, students, staff, and administration focused on creating a more inclusive and anti-racist academic environment. Many of these dialogues and their outcomes can be explored through the links provided below. The School of Visual Media and Performing Arts participated in this work by holding workshops with Inspire Justice, an organization that specializes in transformative justice training and social impact advising. The college’s Office of Diversity and Equity Programs also led anti-racism and anti-bias training for our faculty and students. These sessions allowed us to come together and discuss how to better create safe and inclusive environments, to support dialogue, and to encourage an exchange of ideas and opinions. Other committees, at both the School and department levels focused on readings and pedagogical resources to help decolonize the curriculum. This work is just the beginning, but are the necessary steps that will lead us to greater understanding and equality as a School and as an institution.
The following sources serve as an introductory guide about practices to create an anti-racist classroom—this is not a complete list, but simply a work in progress. Additional readings, websites, podcasts, books, and articles will be added as our work continues.
