Good News from Professor Emeritus Douglas Hedwig
December 28, 2015
The Conservatory recently received good tidings from Professor Emeritus Douglas Hedwig, who long headed the brass area:
Professor Emeritus Douglas Hedwig has recently had two of his compositions accepted for publication by Carl Fischer Music Publishers. "A Certain Slant of Light" (based on a poem by Emily Dickinson), for brass quintet, organ and percussion, and "Onyx" for brass quintet will be available worldwide some time in 2016.
Professor Hedwig has also been appointed Symphony Reviewer and Music Critic for one of the most important newspapers in the Southeast U.S., The Chattanooga Times Free Press. As such, he will be publishing article-length reviews.
Furthermore, Professor Hedwig is pleased to announced that his debut album as conductor has just been released on the MSR Classics label. Entitled, "Thomas Coates: The Father of Band Music in American," the recording features previously unrecorded music by late-19th-century American composer, Thomas Coates. The band he is conducting (including brass, woodwinds and percussion) performs exclusively on original instruments and mouthpieces of the period. [http://www.msrcd.com/catalog/cd/MS1556]
