Dahveed Behroozi (candidate, M.Mus., piano performance, 2010) gave a West Coast concert performance on April 4, 2010, that was broadcast on KCSM 91.1 FM in the Bay Area of San Francisco.
The Conservatory Brass Ensemble played at the opening of the Third-Term Inauguration Ceremony for Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg at City Hall. Professor Douglas Hedwig conducted the ensemble in the premiere of his Promenade for a Great City. The 15 performers included conservatory students Jessica Ashcraft (trumpet), Keon DePass (trumpet), Daniel Filstrup (trumpet), Dana DeSiena (horn), Melissa Danas (horn), Eric Hanrehan (horn), David Whitwell (trombone), Bradley Madsen (trombone), Thomas Lynaugh (trombone), Paul Tripo (euphonium), Chad Walther (tuba), Christopher Morales (trumpet), Juliana Crifasi (trumpet) and Christian Alonzo (trombone) as well as alumnus Marshall Nichols (trumpet).
Owen Joseph (candidate, M.A., music education, 2010) teaches music at Parkway Elementary School in Brooklyn. In September 2009 his CD Open-Hearted was released on iTunes under the name Owen J.
Larry Robinson (candidate, B.Mus., composition and viola performance, 2010) was accepted to the M.A./Ph.D. program in ethnomusicology at UCLA, where he has been offered a prestigious four-year Eugene V. Cota Robles Fellowship for full financial support of his graduate studies. He will begin his studies in fall 2010.
Amir Shpilman (B.Mus., composition, 2011) is president of the Brooklyn Composers Collective (BCC), which presented a unique concert (Brand/New II) on March 7, 2010 at The Tank (New York), of music by Beethoven, Gary Schocker and Steve Reich as well by Brooklyn College composition students Matt Frey, Jay Vilnai and Shpilman himself. The BCC is an organization of motivated, ambitious and talented students in the composition and performance programs of the conservatory who are dedicated to the advancement of contemporary music. The collective engages exciting commission projects in collaboration with energetic and talented young performers. BCC works with a variety of performance settings and venues in order to expose new audiences to contemporary music well beyond the conservatory, and promotes the preservation of 20th- and 21st-century contemporary music through educational workshops, performances and lecture series with high schools. With future plans for adventurous programming featuring innovative, dynamic compositions, the collective seeks to enlighten and entertain newcomers and experts alike by pushing the boundaries of contemporary music.
Seth Woods (B.Mus., cello performance, 2010) will be studying in fall 2010 with cellist Thomas Demenga at the Musik-Akademie der Stadt Basel, Switzerland.
Liu Ye (candidate, M.Mus., piano performance, 2011) wrote an article that is being published in the only musicology magazine of piano in China, Piano Artistry, on Dec. 9. The article is about the Chinese Music Festival in Carnegie Hall and performances given by Lang Lang.
