Brooklyn College Goes to China
March 20, 2009
The Conservatory Chamber Choir performed last summer as part of a salute to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Thirty-five students, faculty and alumni participated in the trip.
The choir performed with other singers from around the globe in Shanghai and Bejjng from June 28 to July 7 as part of the 2008 Olympic Festival Chorus and Orchestra. The performance featured Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. Under the direction of Professor Jonathan Babcock, the choir also performed several concerts of its own repertoire, representing the United States and the borough of Brooklyn. In addition to performing, students and faculty toured sites such as the Great Wall of China, Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, and attended performances of the Beijing Opera and the Shanghai Acrobats. This venture was not only an incredible musical opportunity for our students, but also afforded them an opportunity to experience the ancient and contemporary culture of China while proudly representing their college on an international level.
