Dean's Message to School of Education Students
July 7, 2020
Dear Brooklyn College Students:
I hope you are all having a relaxing summer and staying healthy and safe. I have been thinking of you during this difficult and uncertain time.
We have received some requests for a School of Education Town Hall for students to discuss plans for the upcoming fall semester. As far as the reopening of the campus, have been no major changes at Brooklyn College since the memo from Brooklyn College President Anderson dated June 3, 2020, regarding planning for reentry.
You can check for updates about the college in the COVID-19 Updates section.
For the School of Education in particular, there have been no major changes in NY State certification policies since May, 2020. You can check for updates at www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert and the Brooklyn College Educator Certification website:
http://www.brooklyn.cuny.edu/web/academics/schools/education/certification.php
We hope to have guidance about fall plans for P-12 schools and educator preparation programs after the Board of Regents meets in July. They are expected to release their findings on July 13, so we will schedule a Town Hall as soon as we receive that guidance.
I know that many of you have attended previous Town Halls hosted by myself or our Certification Officer, Ms. Helen Spencer. We are both available this summer, along with SOE advisors and department chairs, to answer your questions. We will keep you updated as soon as there is new information to report.
Until then, I wish you the very best.
Warmly,
Dean Bedford
