If you asked Roy Ben-Moshe what he wanted to be when he was 10 years old, he would have answered architect with the conviction of a serious Lego house builder. His new life goal of professor of comparative religion is a long way from architect but a natural progression when he tells you about his experiences at Brooklyn College.
Roy will tell you to "make Brooklyn College your own. The guidance you will get from the Honors Academy will open up a whole world of opportunities." Following his own advice, Roy has sung in an a cappella group, acted in an off-off-Broadway show, been vice president of the Historical Society, and started up a Student Union group. Academically, he presented his thesis on attacks on Jews during the bubonic plague at a conference in Wisconsin, studied medieval studies at Cambridge University, and presented at a conference at Hope University in England. With full scholarship funding, Brooklyn College helped to make his academic travels possible.
Reflecting on his intellectual development, this Brooklyn native will tell you that before he came to Brooklyn College, "I didn't know much about, say, feminism, art history, religion. All of these concepts were so monolithic in my mind. But at Brooklyn College, I've had the opportunity to really develop these ideas and I think that's sort of the beauty of college. You get to experience new things and really see and study the nuances."
