Policies
Weapons
No one within the City University of New York (CUNY) community, except peace officers, pursuant to authorization of the college president, shall have in their possession a rifle, shotgun, firearm, or any other dangerous instrument or material that can be used to inflict bodily harm on an individual or damage to a building or the grounds of a campus.
Unlawful Conduct
Students, regardless of their membership in off-campus organizations recognized by the college, are responsible for comporting themselves in a manner consistent with college and CUNY policy and must conduct themselves in a lawful manner at all times.
Alcoholic Beverages and the Use, Sale, and Possession of Illegal Drugs
It is the policy of CUNY and Brooklyn College that any action or situation that recklessly or intentionally endangers mental or physical health or involves the forced consumption of liquor or drugs for the purpose of initiation or affiliation with any organization is prohibited.
The legal age for drinking alcohol in New York is 21, and state laws deal harshly with underage drinking. It is also against the law in New York State to sell or give alcohol to anyone under the age of 21. The unlawful possession, use, or distribution of alcohol by students or employees on university/college premises or as part of any university/college activities is prohibited.
The unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensation, possession, or use of illegal drugs or other controlled substances by university students or employees on university/college premises or as part of any university/college activities is prohibited. Employees of the university must also notify the college personnel director of any criminal drug statute conviction for a violation occurring in the workplace no later than five days after such conviction. The possession or use of illegal drugs is a crime in the State of New York. Anyone found in possession of or using such drugs on college property will be severely dealt with and may be suspended from the college, in addition to facing criminal charges.
Sexual Harassment
Brooklyn College adheres to the City University of New York Policy and Procedures Against Sexual Harassment.
Policy Adherence
Violation of college policy subjects students to the disciplinary procedure. Violation of law exposes the student to criminal charges and/or arrest.
