Letter of Reaffirmation
Dear Brooklyn College Community,
Brooklyn College is committed to values and policies that enhance respect for individuals and their cultures. In fact, the College’s cultural, racial, and ethnic diversity is one of its distinguishing characteristics. To reap the rewards of diversity, the College has developed and will continue to develop programs that combat bigotry and other biases in whatever form and will build on the strengths inherent in this multicultural, multiracial, and multigenerational campus.
Accordingly, I am committed to oversee compliance with the CUNY Policies and Procedures on Equal Opportunity, Non-Discrimination, and on Sexual Misconduct. The Equal Opportunity and Non-discrimination Policy states CUNY’s commitment to recruit, employ, retain, promote, and provide benefits to employees regardless of race, color, creed, national origin, ethnicity, ancestry, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, marital status, partnership status, disability, genetic information, alienage, citizenship, military or veteran status, unemployment status, pregnancy, or status as a victim of domestic violence/stalking/sex offenses, or any other legally prohibited basis in accordance with federal, state and city laws. Italian Americans are included among CUNY’s protected groups. Additionally, as a federal contractor, CUNY engages in affirmative action consistent with federal requirements. I invite you to view the Equal Opportunity Policy in its entirety, including the complaint procedures and prohibition against retaliation.
I have assigned the responsibility for the implementation and monitoring of our compliance program to Anthony Brown Esq. Executive Chief Diversity Officer & Special Assistant to the President who will also serve as the 504/ADA Coordinator. The Diversity and Equity Programs Office is located in the 2147 Boylan Hall Building and may be reached at 718.951.4128. For complaints related to discrimination and Title IX, please contact Ivana Bologna, Esq. Title IX Coordinator, 1216 Boylan Hall or call 718.951.5000 ext. 6468. The vice presidents, deans, directors, managers and supervisors share responsibility for ensuring our compliance with these policies and laws.
Thank you for your assistance and continued support in fostering a vibrant, respectful, and inclusive academic community.
Michelle J. Anderson
President, Brooklyn College
