Student Spotlight - Maggie Lin
Q: What is your current class standing and anticipated graduation date?
I’m a senior, and I will be graduating this upcoming Spring 2020 semester!
Q: What are your major(s) and/or minor(s)?
I’m a Philosophy and Law Major.
Q: Why did you choose to become a philosophy major?
At first, I took some philosophy classes as an interest and after receiving support from my professors, I decided to pursue it as a major. Philosophy has given me insight to questions I’ve always wondered about and allowed me to express myself more and better. I always wanted to do law and Brooklyn College conveniently has a philosophy and law track.
Q: What are your goals for the future? Do you have plans to attend graduate school or do you have a career in mind upon graduation?
I am planning on applying to Law school in the near future.
Q: What are your interests in philosophy?
I’m interested in metaphysics/existentialism, Chinese philosophy, ethics, and logic. I don’t necessarily have a favorite philosopher, but I do enjoy the works of Albert Camus, Hu Shih, and Simone de Beauvoir.
Q: Do you have a favorite quote by a philosopher?
“Everything has been figured out, except how to live.” — Jean-Paul Sartre
Simply because he took the words right out of my mouth.
Q: Have you had any recent accomplishments such as conferences you attended/presented at, awards/scholarships you have received, contests you have won, publications you have made, and so forth?
I have made Deans List for the past few semesters, and recently joined an Honor Society.
Q: What are one or two fun facts about you?
I work at a bank as an associate banker. I am an avid (self-proclaimed) foodie.
