Awards and Scholarships
Many awards and scholarships are available to undergraduate students in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, including the following.
Awards
Doris Mandell Memorial Award
To a graduating senior with demonstrated excellence in Spanish who has participated in extracurricular activities in this field and has been most active in fostering interest in it.
Dorothy Lascher-Schlitt Award
To be used to enable students who might not otherwise do so to attend noteworthy performances of works related to the studies of modern languages by visiting foreign or domestic dramatic or musical companies.
Julia Schwabe Award
To meritorious students as determined by the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, with preference given to students studying German.
Moliere Award
To a non-native French-speaking student who is outstanding on the advanced level.
Paul J. & Angela H. Salvatore Award
Three $100 awards to undergraduate students for proficiency in a Romance language (one in French, one in Italian and one in Spanish).
Renee G. Geen Memorial Award
To a graduating senior who has demonstrated academic excellence and financial need, and who has been accepted into an accredited graduate program in Romance languages, as demonstrated by an acceptance letter from that graduate school. Preference shall be given to students majoring in French.
Scholarships
J. Robert Loy Memorial Scholarship
To be used for undergraduate scholarships in the humanities.
Julian E. and Margaret R. Miranda Scholarship for the Pursuit of Italian Studies
To students born of Italian parents who demonstrate financial need and are interested in the study of the language, literature, history and culture of Italy.
Morton Kershnar '36 Scholarship in Romance Languages
To a third-year student majoring in a Romance language in good academic standing.
Paul J. & Angela H. Salvatore Scholarship
A $1,000 scholarship to an outstanding undergraduate student for proficiency in a Romance language.
