Ronnie Burrage, MFAIA, is an artist, producer, and composer. He has played with leading figures Wayne Shorter, Sonny Rollins, Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius, McCoy Tyner, Jackie McLean, Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw, and Archie Shepp, among many other innovators of America's classical art form, jazz. He is featured on more than 170 recordings and has toured on four continents, from Siberia to South Africa to Japan. His latest GRAMMY-considered production, Dance of the Great Spirit, features some of his greatest work to date.
In addition, but also as an organic part of his work, Burrage has been an influential teacher, both privately and in significant institutions. He was an instructor at Pennsylvania State University and The University of the Arts, and, as a confirming expression of his long career as a much-sought-after performer, he is now a professor at both Brooklyn College's Conservatory of Music and SUNY Old Westbury College. He leads one of the most dynamic programs of music history and culture. In addition to teaching, he is performing some of the most interesting, cutting-edge music that exists throughout the world. He has been a mentor and adviser to numerous diverse groups of students, from Penn State University and SUNY Old Westbury.
Burrage has been influential as a social justice leader in St. Louis, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and State College, Pennsylvania. He was a founding board member of Men of Valor 501(c)(3), in St. Louis, working to help men of color reintegrate successfully as fathers and into productive community building work. Currently, Burrage is CEO of the World Rhythm Academy and RoBurrage Productions. He is a current board member of Global Youth Connect, which enables students to study abroad in a variety of countries.
