Katty Rodriguez
Adjunct Assistant Professor; Big Band Director
Katty Rodriguez (a.k.a. “Kat”) is a multitalented, Grammy-nominated musician. She is a widely-known saxophonist, composer, arranger, songwriter, vocalist, and educator.
Kat is a graduate of LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts and the Mannes Jazz Program at the New School University in New York City, where she received a full scholarship and graduated with a BFA in Jazz Saxophone and Composition. In 2019, she received a master's degree in Music Education from Lehman College. In 2013, Kat recorded her debut album, Mockery, which she co-wrote and co-produced with Keyon Harrold. Kat is currently the Director of the Instrumental Department at Young at Arts Afterschool program. She is also a music educator for New Visions High School for 9-12th graders.
Kat worked and toured with Beyoncé’s all-female band for ten years, beginning in 2006. She appears on several of the singer’s albums, and also performed in numerous TV appearances, which include Oprah, Ellen, The Black Girls Rock Awards, The Today Show, Good Morning America, The BET Awards, The Grammys, and Super Bowl XVLII, to name just a few.
Kat has years of experience performing in various big bands, most notably that of legendary drummer Charlie Persip.
