Candis Pohl
Adjunct Lecturer, Music Education, Woodwind Instruments
Candis Pohl is a product of the New York City Public School system and was inspired by her teachers to become a music educator. In 2005, she graduated from Wagner College with a bachelor's degree in music education and, in 2008, from Brooklyn College with a master's degree. She was an accomplished band director at Marine Park Intermediate School 278, in Brooklyn, where she had taught for more than 15 years, and is currently Assistant Principal of Music at Edward R. Murrow High School. Throughout her years as an educator, her students have performed at the Music in the Parks Festival in Pennsylvania, Festival Disney in Florida, and on the iconic stage of Carnegie Hall. Pohl hosted the Spring NYSSMA Music Festival at her school for several years and participated in the Facilitators Team of educators who led Citywide Professional Development Workshops with the Director of Music in New York City. She was involved in many District 22 activities as host of the District 22 Music Professional Learning Community, and had served as an Arts Monday facilitator for two years. Most recently, Pohl was selected to be Supervisor of the Middle School Arts Boot Camp in collaboration with the Lincoln Center Education Department, where she had worked as Woodwind Coach to help students prepare for their high school audition process. She has been conductor in the Salute to Music Program for ten years and has held the title of Center Director of Brooklyn for the latter six years. She joined the MEANYC Executive Board in September 2017 and looks forward to further enhancing the opportunities of music educators in New York City.
