Call for Participation
Call for Participation (for archival purposes only)
The symposium organizing committee invited proposals for lectures, panels, workshops, and musical performances. In particular, we were interested in scholarly consideration of individual works by Oliveros, the evolution of her practice, her performance instruments, deep listening practice, her use of new technologies, and ways in which her work has influenced contemporary musical composition, performance, and thought.
Presentations by individuals will be 15 minutes, followed by Q&A. Panels will be given more time, determined in consultation with organizers. All panel proposals should include a list of participating panelists. Panel and workshop proposals should include a suggested duration. All proposals for panels, lectures, and workshops must include a short abstract (250 word maximum) describing the presentation content.
Concerts will happen both on campus at Brooklyn College and ShapeShifter Lab, an independent venue in the Park Slope/Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Performance proposals should include instrumentation, approximate duration of the performance, and any technical requirements, such as amplification, video, stage area for dance, etc. Performance proposers must provide their own musicians and assume any monetary outlays related to their performance. Performance proposals should also include links to YouTube and or SoundCloud documentation of one to three prior performances, including date of each performance.
Please note that there is no application fee and no participation fee for those who present their work at this event.
