Credentialing Success
Credentialing Success is a group of academic and professional development activities designed to support students in the CSTEP program. Program activities are bundled into three areas of development (or strands) to support students. CSTEP students first choose an area of study from one of the seven program tracks: accounting, allied health, computer science, mental health/psychology, pre-medicine, public health, and STEM. Students in each track follow a guided set of activities and workshops in each of the three strands. Students complete the strands within their academic track. The Credentialing Success program is based on a highly personalized academic plan and what we believe is a good strategy for ensuring student success in the major or path they choose.
Academic Success
The first strand is a series of activities and workshops to support students' academic success through goal setting, planning, study skills, and use of appropriate college resources. It includes multiple components, including college orientation and expectations, planning a practical academic program, excelling in classes through the use of effective study skills and how to deal with the challenges of college in a productive way.
Developing Professional Skills
This strand includes specific activities to help students learn about the career path of their particular major. It includes activities designed to foster credential building. It also offers assistance in applying to graduate or professional programs and in entering the job market. This strand focuses on building skills that graduate school faculty and future employers say they want from college graduates.
Becoming a Professional
The last strand includes internships, research placements, fieldwork, and practicum classes that provide key hands-on experiences to explore various careers, allowing our students to make well-informed career decisions and develop the necessary self-confidence and credentials that will allow them to go on to successful graduate and professional careers. It includes all stages of planning for postbaccalaureate study, preparation for standardized tests, and help with the job-hunt process.
