The ALQKAA Symposium: A Cross-Ethno-Gender Korean/Asian Studies Initiative
Job Description
The student(s) will be responsible for the following work:
- Identify and gather information on scholar(ship), exhibitions, and artistic/visual cultural practices that touch upon the five major themes of the project: Afro-Korea/Asia, Queer/LGBTQI Korea/Asia, Latinx-Korea/Asia, K-Pop/Hallyu (The Korean Wave), and Feminist Art in Korea/Asia.
- Identify and collect the list of centers, institutions, and organizations that are related to the above topics within CUNY, and beyond CUNY (focusing on major ones that have a national impact in this case), and the contact information for them. For example, how many Korean Studies-related programs/majors are in the US, and what/where are they? Give me the list of them with links to their websites, and other related information.
More specific search criteria and how to present the collected data will be assigned and discussed with the student(s) once the work begins.
Necessary Skills
- Efficient in using online search engines, such as Google/Google Scholar
- Organized
- Thorough and detail-oriented
If the students are interested in pursuing further studies in the above topics, this learning experience helps them develop their research and thesis, and they can add it to their CVs as a "researcher" for the project.
Compensation
$10 per hour, up to 100 hours. Flexible times as long as the necessary data is delivered in time.

Research Assistance/Programming Support for the Maria E. Sánchez Center for Latino Studies at Brooklyn College (CUNY)
The Maria E. Sánchez Center for Latino Studies at Brooklyn College is looking for an undergraduate or graduate Research Assistant for the 2022-2023 academic year to work on an ongoing project on the Economic Status of Latinxs in the United States.
Job Description
Applicants should have research interests in the intersection of economics, race, gender and Latinx Studies. The position will entail working with Prof. Alan Aja (PRLS, Brooklyn College) and Prof. Stephan Lefebvre (Bucknell University) in creating annotated bibliographies, assisting on syllabus and website development, and early stages of research project development.
Compensation
The position allows for flexibility with school schedule-working 2-3 hours a week throughout the fall (22) and spring semesters (23) and comes with a $2500 stipend and opportunity for course credit.

Bilingual Latinx Identities in the Teaching Journey: A Qualitative Study on the Formation of Culturally and Linguistically Sustaining Practices through Youth Literature
The María E. Sánchez Center for Latino Studies at Brooklyn College is looking for a bilingual (Spanish/English) undergraduate or graduate Research Assistant for the 2022 - 2023 academic year to work on a study titled, "Bilingual Latinx Identities in the Teaching Journey: A Qualitative Study on the Formation of Culturally and Linguistically Sustaining Practices through Youth Literature."

Applicants should have research interests in bilingual education, youth literature, curriculum development, and Latinx Studies. The position will entail working with Prof. España (Puerto Rican and Latino Studies, Brooklyn College) in assisting with focus group and interview questions, developing annotated bibliographies of youth literature, creating a survey of curriculum for bilingual teachers of Latinx students, compiling data on Latinx children and schooling in the United States, and transcribing research sessions.
Compensation

Anti-racist Research and Action at Brooklyn College!
- Do you have something to say about how students experience race and racism at Brooklyn College?
- Do you want to learn more about what other students experience at Brooklyn College?
- Do you want to help lead a project to create a liberatory vision for what Brooklyn College could be?
We are recruiting a team of 10 Brooklyn College students who, together with allied faculty and staff, will work as a research collective to identify, understand, and change aspects of Brooklyn College that perpetuate structural racism as well as identify and understand spaces/experiences that are affirming and liberatory.
Job Description
The research team will meet for 2 hours a week throughout Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 to:
- create community
- discuss and think through the biggest questions facing our community
- research history of Brooklyn College and CUNY
- learn from histories and scholarship on race and racism and develop our own framework of understanding
- train in research methods and ethics
- carry out research (like interviews, surveys, focus groups) online and in-person on the campus with students, staff, and faculty
- study and analyze data
- develop creative projects
- share back what we find via community forums
- produce recommendations to inform Brooklyn College policy
The goal is a proactively antiracist campus that sees and values all of us.
You do not need to have any prior research experience, or in writing, public speaking, or in creating art. You do not need to be a U.S. citizen.
Compensation
BC Anti-Racist PAR Team researchers receive a stipend.

Participate in the build-out and growth of an organization from its beginning stages by learning the legal incorporation process of a non-profit, including:
Spring 2023
- how to complete 501c3 applications for federal tax exemption status
- developing organizational bylaws
- planning for board development
- strategic planning
- navigating elected official relationships
- working on legislative initiatives
- building community space visioning models/programs
- developing equity frameworks related to best practices for descendant community advocacy work

Black Light: Digital Literature from Africa and Diaspora
Job Description
A Professor at Brooklyn College, part of the City University of New York, is looking for a graduate or undergraduate Researcher/Project Manager for the 2022-2023 academic year to work on a project related to electronic literature by people of African descent. Applicants should have research interests in literature and technology and comfort with intersectionality and subject matter that relates to race, gender, sexuality, and nationality. The position will include creating annotated bibliographies, interviewing authors, and website development.
Compensation
The position allows for flexibility with school and work schedules; the researcher will work approximately 2-3 hours a week for much of the fall 2022 and spring 2023 semesters and comes with a minimum stipend of $1300. There is also a possibility of receiving course credit.
