Disbursements
What is disbursement?
Disbursement is when a financial aid award is applied to your CUNYfirst account. Aid is first applied against any tuition and fess that have not been paid yet. A disbursement is not a direct payment to a student.
What is pending financial aid?
Pending financial aid is aid that is approved but is pending to disburse to your CUNYfirst account. The aid will stay in a pending status until the first available disbursement date. The Bursar considers pending aid when determining how much you may still owe if the aid is not enough to fully cover your tuition balance.
How does financial aid pay my tuition?
Once a student has completed the financial aid process and has pending aid that aid will be applied to any outstanding tuition and fess at the time the aid disburses.
How does financial aid pay directly to me?
After aid has been applied to your CUNYfirst account and your tuition is fully paid (so that your record shows a $0 balance) if there is more financial aid that was not applied to your balance you will receive a refund of that amount.
When do I receive a refund?
Information about the refund process is available on the Bursar's Webpage here
How do I know when my aid will disburse?
