Nelnet Payment Plan Details
There is a $25 enrollment fee per semester that you use the Nelnet Payment Plan. Nelnet will charge a 2.65% Service Fee for all credit/debit card payments.
Future payment plans will now include any prior balances as part of the payment plan total:
- When completing the Payment Plan Budget Worksheet, include any prior balances so they can be incorporated into your initial payment plan total.
- Note: Enrolling in a current payment plan for a prior semester balance does not guarantee the removal of your bursar hold. Schedule an appointment with a student payment adviser via BCAT to discuss your payment options.
- If you do not include your prior balance in the initial payment plan total, your payment plan balance will be recalculated (after the enrollment closing date) to include any prior balances.
- Prior balances will be divided among your remaining installments.
- Keep in mind that if your financial aid award has been removed for a prior semester, this balance will be included in your payment plan.
- Any payment plan payments will be applied to the earliest balance first.
- For example, if you are enrolled in a payment plan for the upcoming semester and also have an outstanding balance for a previous semester, any payment plan payments will first be applied to the previous semester balance(s) until it is fully covered. Subsequent payments will then be applied to your current balance.
- If you have a past due balance (that is not in pre-collections or has not been transferred to a collections agency), you may have the ability to enroll in a payment plan, even if you are not enrolled for the current semester. However, any bursar holds will remain on the account until full balance is paid.
- You will not be able to enroll in a payment plan for your prior balance if:
- your balance is in pre-collections or has been transferred to a collections agency (you must submit payment to the appropriate collections agency). A BNP Service Indicator will appear on your account in this case.
- you have been dismissed from the college (you may submit a one-time eCheck payment on your CUNYfirst account), or
- you have successfully filed for graduation for a semester prior to the current semester's payment plan.
