Karl Steel is an Associate Professor of English. Apart from many articles on critical animal studies, and posthumanism, he is the author of How to Make a Human: Animals and Violence in the Middle Ages (2011), and co-editor, with Peggy McCracken, of postmedieval 2.1 ("The Animal Turn"). His next book, Medieval Nonhumanisms: Sympathy, Edibility, and Helplessness, will appear with the University of Minnesota Press.
