What was supposed to be a short-term job for Andrey Postoyanets became a satisfying ITS career with colleagues he holds in high esteem.

Back in 2001, application developer Andrey Postoyanets figured the part-time programmer job at Brooklyn College he accepted would be a “quick venture,” but he quickly became an indispensable full-time member of the college’s Information Technology Services (ITS).
Today, Postoyanets is sure that he and his colleagues have partnered with almost every department and office at the college, including Admissions, Human Resources, Student Affairs, and Athletics, and introduced to the college many core applications that are still in use today. “It speaks volumes on how smart investing in information technology has continuing returns,” he explains.
Although most of the campus knows ITS and its Help Desk as the go-to for technical issues, the bulk of the office’s work—managing and supporting the campus infrastructure (network, phones, desktop computers, and software licensing), classroom technology, the campus portal, online apps, and most computer labs—is done behind closed doors on the college library’s fourth floor, the ITS nerve center.
Still, Postoyanets points out that their work does not go unnoticed: His office has received praise from students, staff, and faculty; peers from other CUNY campuses; and professionals from other institutes of higher education.
“It’s a real honor to have a job that lets you make a difference daily,” he says.
When he’s not immersed in his work in the technological world, Postoyanets enjoys cooking and “suffering as a New York Mets fan.” He also volunteers with his family on an organic farm. “Nothing switches your brain off from computers more than cleaning a barn, moving chicken fences in 85-degree weather, or just hanging out with birds and other animals, enjoying the magnificent views of upstate New York.” Postoyanets says his friends are convinced he will one day work as a full-time organic farmer.
Until then, he works with colleagues he holds in high regard and of whom he has good memories. “My ITS family was there for me when my mom passed,” he says. “They are great people, true professionals, and dear friends, with whom I am blessed to work all these years.”
