Anthropology Professor Naomi Schiller Speaks on Urgent Tasks Facing U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development
Sept. 27, 2021
Accessibility to healthy and sustainable homes is a top priority, says Schiller.
With the expiration of the federal eviction moratorium looming, and in some states already in effect, affordable housing has been pushed to fore as millions stand to lose their homes. While Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Marcia Fudge and the Biden administration must address this emergency, there are long-term problems underpinning today’s housing crisis that need lasting and effective solutions. One includes expanding greatly the number of healthy and sustainable homes and residential buildings available, especially for those Americans on the lower end of the socioeconomic spectrum. Professor of Anthropology Naomi Schiller speaks about the challenges that Secretary Fudge is facing and possible remedies. As Professor Schiller states, "housing is foundational to our health, both as individuals, and a society."
