Tracking Redirects
Before you begin, open the Tracking code spreadsheet, and create the following:
- Redirect reference name - ex: Online Chat: Match 27, 2016
- Redirect filename - ex: 160327.php
- Destination URL - where does the redirect link to?
- Google Code elements (broad > more specific > unique) - no spaces and only 0-9, a-Z, and - or _:
- Source - most generic category of organizing, will be reused over and over. Ex. CUNY, BCCalendar, CUNY-Events
- Medium - where was the link specifically. Ex. Event, Email, GoogleAd.
- Campaign - completely unique code for the link itself. Reaffirm your office and potentially the source and medium codes. Ex: GradAdm-OC-EM-160327 (Graduate Admissions - Online Chat - Email Link - March 27, 2016)
- Go to Bitly.com and shorten the Full URL
If you intend to link to the same redirect from multiple sources/mediums - email, CUNY events, etc., you can create multiple spreadsheet entries using the same Redirect reference name and filename but with unique tracking codes.
