Writing, Research and Development - Students will learn to turn their knowledge about the world into personal narratives; they will create complex characters and effective plots; research and analyze ideas from ethical, legal and social perspectives; and develop scripts, treatments, outlines and proposals in the areas of single and multiple camera productions.
Aesthetics - Students will learn the principles of visualization and the relationship between aesthetics and story, including visual organization of a mise-en-scene, shot composition, lighting, production design, editing, sound design, and music.
Context - Students will learn to analyze social and historical context of audio-visual texts of both mainstream and independent media as well as their own.
Skills
Single Camera Directing and Producing - Students will learn to visualize and realize concepts for single camera productions; break down scripts, create budgets and schedules, hire cast and crew; create storyboards, design and manage productions, and proficiently and creatively use the basic equipment and software of single camera production.
Multiple Camera Directing and Producing - Students will learn to visualize and realize concepts for multiple camera productions: analyze scripts, create lighting plots and floor plans, delegate and manage production crews, communicate vision and directives in a fast paced, real-time broadcast environment and proficiently and creatively use the basic equipment and software of multiple camera production.
Post Production - Students will learn to edit their material into compelling stories, design and mix sound effects and music, design titles and graphics, color correct and grade their projects, and deliver video across all delivery platforms and creatively use the basic equipment and software of post production.
