Preparatory Center for the Performing Arts
Since 1978, the Preparatory Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College has provided a nurturing and fun setting where our talented, professional artist-teachers develop children's skills in music, theater, and dance to their fullest potential. Skills developed in the arts promote confidence and self-esteem, traits essential for any path taken in life. The Prep Center staff work in collaboration with parents and instructors to ensure the best course of study for students. Children ages 3 to 18 at all levels of study are welcome. Adults may receive private instruction in music, theater and dance at beginner to advanced levels group classes in guitar, piano, and voice.
The Prep Center school-year runs from September through June for 30 weeks. Additional new classes are offered in the Spring Semester. Summer Session runs for six weeks from July through August.

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Updates
The well-being of the Preparatory Center and Brooklyn College communities is our top priority.
Remote and In-Person Classes
Students have the option to take their summer private lessons remotely or in-person. Group classes will be taught in-person. Availability of in-person sections depend on instructor availability and the New York City and State, CDC and CUNY Covid-19 and other relevant guidelines of the time. All students and parents must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 to have access to the in-person classes at the Brooklyn College campus.
Brooklyn College and the City University of New York both continue to monitor the COVID-19 outbreak. Further updates and announcements regarding summer classes will be communicated to all registered Prep Center parents and students via weekly e-mails. You can also access all current and previous Brooklyn College updates regarding COVID-19.
Virtual Performances
The Prep Center will engage in innovative methods to continue our performances through various in-person and online media during the 2022-2023 school year. Virtual student performances will be shared with our community each week.
Accompaniment
To cultivate an efficient remote learning environment for our students, we are collaborating with WeAccompany Piano Accompaniment to provide free access to all Prep Center students for the school year.
