The Office of International Student and Scholar Services assists international students and scholars with visa and immigration processes and compliance, provides referrals to both on- and off-campus resources, and serves as an advocate for international students.
International Student and Scholar Services, part of the Division of Enrollment Management, is committed to guiding the international student at Brooklyn College. The office aspires to provide high-quality service and support that will help the international student achieve academic and personal success. From welcoming the student on campus to congratulating the student at the graduation ceremony, our staff members help support the international student experience at Brooklyn College.
The International Student and Scholar Services Office also manages the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program and warmly welcomes and supports J-1 scholars and students from all over the world.
Fall 2022, In-Person Courses, and Vaccines
There has been no update from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement since the last memo in July 2020. Due to the global pandemic Homeland Security is allowing continuing F-1 students currently in the country to take their entire semester online. Continuing undergraduate students must be registered for 12 credits and graduate students must be registered for 9 credits or what is considered to be full time for your program of study, unless this is your last semester. You are allowed to return to your home country if your entire program of study is online and maintain your F-1 status. Students planning on taking in-person or hybrid courses must receive the vaccine in order to enter Brooklyn College campus. In order to prove vaccination, CUNY will accept vaccines approved by the World Health Organization for emergency use.
Brooklyn College is International
New York City is one of the most diverse cities in the world, and Brooklyn College reflects that diversity. International students and scholars have a special place at the college. We are an invigorating mix of language and culture—and we love the energy and perspective our students and scholars from around the world bring. Currently, the college has students from almost 140 countries, representing more than 100 languages. Welcome to Brooklyn College and feel at home, because we truly are international.
International Collaborations
Brooklyn College actively engages the global community in a variety of ways. If you are already a Brooklyn College student interested in learning/studying abroad, or if you are an institution that wants to collaborate with us, contact the Office of International Education and Global Engagement.
