†The Pathways curriculum is typically 42 credits. However, the Physics B.S. major includes 4 courses (PHYS 1150, MATH 1201, CHEM 1100, CHEM 2100) that also satisfy Pathways requirements. Therefore, students majoring in Physics B.S. only need to complete 30 additional Pathways credits.
The Physic B.S. Course Sequence is for students planning graduate work toward a Ph.D. degree in physics or astronomy.
Candidates must complete at least 60 credits in science and mathematics; 24 of these 60 credits must be completed in advanced courses in the Physics Department. These 24 credits must be completed at Brooklyn College with a grade of C or higher in each course.
The following courses may be applied toward the 60 credits in science and mathematics:
- A) All courses in the departments of biology, chemistry, computer and information science, earth and environmental science, mathematics, physics, and psychology.
- B) Courses marked with a number sign (#) in the Department of Health and Nutrition Sciences.
- C) ANTH 2200, ANTH 3199, ANTH 3230, ANTH 3240, ANTH 3250, ANTH 3260, ANTH 3265, ANTH 3266, ANTH 3425, ANTH 3440, ANTH 3470, ANTH 4665, ECON 3400, ECON 4410, ECON 3410, ECON 4422, KINS 3023, KINS 3271, KINS 3275, KINS 3281, KINS 3285, KINS 4229, KINS 4251, PHIL 3203, PHIL 3204, PHIL 3231, PHIL 3232, PHIL 3422, PHIL 3423, PHIL 3601, PHIL 3605, PHIL 3610, SOCY 2701.
The four-year degree map is designed to help you take the right courses in the right order so you can graduate in four years. It also helps you distinguish what courses qualify as Pathways courses, or Major courses, or General Elective courses. Ideally, you should follow the four-year degree map as closely as possible, but you are free to make some adjustments so long as the prerequisite requirements are satisfied.
In conjunction with the four-year degree map, you should review Degree Works, and the Brooklyn College website, for an approved list of courses in your major. Overall, it is best to review your academic plan with your advisor on a regular basis.
