The four-year degree map is designed to help you take the right courses in the right order so you can graduate in four years. It also helps you distinguish what courses qualify as Pathways courses, or Major courses, or General Elective courses. Ideally, you should follow the four-year degree map as closely as possible, but you are free to make some adjustments so long as the prerequisite requirements are satisfied.

There is a lot of choice in the Anthropology major, and therefore a lot of flexibility. There are various course-sequences students can follow to complete the major, plus various subfields of anthropology (cultural, linguistic, biological anthropology, or archaeology) within the major students may pursue. Thus it is strongly recommended that students meet with an advisor from CAASS and from the Department of Anthropology and Archaeology early on in order to customize their degree map according to their interests.

*Students must complete a field or lab course chosen from the following: ANTH 3015, ANTH 3120W, ANTH 3156, ANTH 3240, ANTH 3440, ANTH 3470, ANTH 3475, ANTH 3480, ANTH 4110. These field or lab courses are available (locally, nationally, and internationally) during fall and spring, as well as winter and summer sessions (6 credits), and should be completed after the 2nd year and before the 4th year.

In conjunction with the four-year degree map, you should review Degree Works, and the Brooklyn College website, for an approved list of courses in your major. You are strongly encouraged to visit the Department of Anthropology and Archaeology for advisement before registering for classes every semester.
