BCSSE Survey of First Time Freshmen

The Beginning College Survey of Student Engagement (BCSSE) was administered to a selection of Brooklyn College first time freshmen in the Fall 2010 semester. Survey administration was overseen by the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Studies with support from IRDA. Students were surveyed in their classrooms approximately 2-3 weeks into the semester.

BCSSE inquires about entering college students' high school academic and co-curricular experiences, as well as their expectations for participating in educationally purposeful activities during the first college year. It can be used to the measure high school experiences and college expectations of our first time freshmen cohort.
