Job Summary
The Associate Gift Officer is responsible for managing a portfolio of 50-100 major gift prospects, and for supporting the work of other frontline fundraisers. The officer will be expected to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift prospects, and must be able to enthusiastically and accurately represent Brooklyn College to a variety of constituents including board members, major donors, prospects and other friends of the College.
The officer works collaboratively with other Institutional Advancement and Brooklyn College staff members to cultivate and solicit donors for college-wide priorities. The officer monitors all prospect contacts to ensure positive and purposeful prospect and donor relations, and recommends and assists with programming and events involving the President, Vice President for Institutional Advancement, Managing Director, Campaign and Major Gifts, senior Brooklyn College staff members, and donors and prospects.
The officer will be a key figure in Brooklyn College’s capital campaign, working closely with campaign leadership and Brooklyn College senior staff to raise campaign gifts, prepare campaign materials and correspondence, and help to achieve a successful campaign.
The officer will also provide essential support to the leadership gifts team, such as drafting correspondence, proposals, stewardship reports and gift agreements; and maintaining donor and prospect records.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop appropriate cultivation and solicitation strategies for donors and prospects, moving potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure.
- Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle, working independently to initiate contacts with potential donors.
- Solicit gifts and support the solicitations of others, as appropriate.
- Maintain stewardship contacts with donors; maintain sensitivity to needs of the donors
- Make decisions about cultivation time committed vs. expected gift; determine who needs to be involved in relationships with prospective donors.
- Assist other members of the leadership gifts team on specific projects as needed
- Provide staffing assistance at cultivation, stewardship, and other major events
- Establish strong working relationships with members of college and Institutional Advancement staff to develop informed donor proposals, gift agreements, acknowledgments and stewardship materials.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree required
Experience
- Five years successful experience in major gift fundraising preferably in higher education.

The Manager, Institutional Support, is an essential member of the development team responsible for managing the Brooklyn College Foundation’s corporate, foundation, and government funder portfolios. The Manager raises funds from corporations through membership and sponsorships and is responsible for executing and fulfilling funder benefits. Additionally, the Manager is responsible for institutional funding reporting calendars (corporate foundation, and government); corporate member renewals and reporting, increasing membership retention and attracting new members; and assisting in the organization of institutional funding partner/prospect meetings and events in conjunction with other administrative and development team staff. Finally, the Manager, Institutional Support, raises corporate sponsorship funds for Brooklyn College events. This position reports to the Director of Strategic Partnerships and Institutional Support.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Meet/exceed fundraising goals annually through corporate affinity group renewals, upgrades, and new enrollments and event sponsorships. (Including but not limited to Brooklyn College Career Partners, Best of Brooklyn annual gala, and corporate Alumni Champions.)
- Develop unique sponsorship packages for fundraising events, exhibitions, public programs, and other restricted corporate giving opportunities, collaborating with Brooklyn College departments when appropriate
- Support the submission of all institutional funding grant renewals and related reporting requests
- Assist in the building and tracking of strong institutional fundraising pipelines through ongoing prospect research, cultivation, and sollicitation efforts
- Support exceptional stewardship of the Brooklyn College Foundation’s portfolio of institutional donors
- Oversee the execution of all institutional funder benefits.
- Track engagement metrics of membership benefits for reporting and upgrade purposes, using data to assess effectiveness and adoption and inform strategies
- Manage institutional funder data in Brooklyn College Foundation's donor management system
- Assist in development and Brooklyn College events as needed
Qualifications
- Three to Five years prior experience working in development, marketing, client services/success, or sales development, preferably for an academic or cultural institution
- Ability to meet fundraising goals and steward an existing donor base.
- Ability to prioritize against competing deadlines both individually and as part of a team.
- Proficiency with donor management systems and the types of data necessary to support constituent relations
- Knowledge of current trends, patterns, and relationships in philanthropy and the higher education sector preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills, courteous and professional demeanor

Job Summary
The Stewardship Manager is responsible for the stewardship functions of the Brooklyn College Foundation, including regular communication with and reporting to donors regarding the use of gifts and overseeing questions relating to scholarship funds. The Manager tracks commitments to individual and select institutional donors and helps assure that these commitments and associated reporting requirements are met. The Manager manages an active portfolio of major gift donors and prospects, and serves as liaison to and facilitator for activities with senior administrative staff and faculty in support of the cultivation and stewardship goals of the department and division. The Manager works closely with the Development Associate for the Leadership Gifts group, ensuring that the Associate supports both stewardship functions and the needs of the Leadership Gifts group.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and execute the stewardship strategy with individual lead donors and select institutional donors. Assure that timely and meaningful stewardship reports and gift acknowledgments are sent, and that student thank you letters to donors are distributed in a timely and efficient manner.
- Manage a portfolio of 30-35 leadership gift prospects and donors, which includes developing appropriate cultivation and solicitation strategies and moving potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure.
- Execute stewardship of temporarily restricted and endowed gifts. Track the names and relevant information about the direct beneficiaries of endowed scholarships, awards, chairs, and capital gifts, send timely reports to donors.
- Coordinate with Finance and Administration and other offices involved in the allocation of temporarily restricted funds and endowment income to assure that disbursements are made in accordance with gift agreements with donors.
- Collaborate with the Office of Scholarships and all departmental fund signatories to ensure adherence to donor restrictions and requests.
- Organize and execute an annual stewardship event, or smaller intimate events throughout the year that connect donors with their student and faculty beneficiaries.
- Prepare gift agreements and other solicitation materials as necessary.
- Oversee the preparation of commemorative plaques and similar items for named spaces and other permanent donor recognition sites at Brooklyn College.
- Work closely with the Development Associate for the Leadership Gifts group, ensuring that the Associate supports both stewardship functions and the needs of the Leadership Gifts group.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree a plus.
Experience
- Must have at least 4-5 years of professional work experience, with a demonstrated record of successful project management.
- Experience working in the development office of a large educational institution or non-profit strongly preferred.
