Brooklyn College also ranked 20th among public colleges for amount of financial aid awards.

For the third straight year, Brooklyn College has been named to The Princeton Review’s Best Value Colleges list. The college ranks 35th among public colleges for its value and 20th nationwide for how much financial aid it awards and student satisfaction with that aid.

The Princeton Review’s list of Best Value Colleges for 2021 is based on a combination of institutional and student survey data, including academic rigor, affordability, and career outcomes for graduates, among others. The data was collected from fall 2019 through fall 2020 via its institutional and student surveys and from PayScale.com on alumni career and salary statistics. Forty data points were weighed, covering academics, costs, financial aid, debt, grad rates, and career/salary data.

The financial aid ranking was based on how much aid a school awards and how satisfied students are with that aid, on a scale of 60–99. This rating is based on school-reported data on the percentage of students who were determined to have need and received aid, the percentage of need met for those students, and the percentage of students whose need was fully met. Student survey data that measures students' satisfaction with the financial aid they receive is also considered.

College President Michelle J. Anderson says the ranking validates the quality and affordability of a Brooklyn College degree. “Brooklyn College continues to be recognized as a national treasure for its extraordinary educational value,” Anderson said. “We are proud to offer excellent degree programs with world-class faculty to our incredibly talented and diverse student body who continue to make a positive impact around the world.”

In March, Brooklyn College was also named the most affordable college in the nation, according to Intelligent.com, which included one of CUNY’s leading senior colleges in top rankings for eight of its degree programs. In December of 2020, Forbes named Brooklyn College as one of the nation’s colleges that offer “the biggest bang for the buck.”

"The colleges that we designate as our 'Best Values' this year are truly a select group: they comprise only about 1.2% of the four-year undergraduate institutions in the U.S.," said Rob Franek, editor-in-chief of The Princeton Review. "These exceptional schools differ in many ways, yet they are alike in that all offer outstanding academics and excellent career services. As important to today's college applicants and their parents: These colleges have a comparatively low sticker price and/or generous financial aid offerings. We recommend and commend them highly for everything their administrators, faculties, staff, and alumni are doing to educate their students and to guide them to post-college success."
