CUNY EDGE (Educate, Develop, Graduate, Empower) is a partnership between the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the City University of New York. CUNY EDGE provides eligible students in pursuit of an undergraduate degree with a wide range of services, supplemental resources, and support needed to succeed in college and in their careers.

Vision

CUNY EDGE envisions a world in which all people have access to the educational opportunities and support they need to achieve academic success, a sustainable career, and a brighter future. The program works tirelessly to make this vision a reality.

Mission

Our mission is to help CUNY students who are receiving public assistance achieve academic excellence, graduate on time, and find employment by offering enhanced and structured academic support services.

Values

Our values encompass all aspects of our work. Our values define us—who we are and who we are not. CUNY EDGE commits to being:

  • Dedicated to our work
  • Committed to equality
  • Student-focused
  • Collaborative
  • Accessible
  • Supportive

We collaborate with existing campus and university offices and programs, including the Center for Academic Advisement and Student Success, Magner Career Center, HRA Fellowship sites, the Learning Center, Office of Financial Aid, Bursar, and others.

How Are Students Enrolled With CUNY EDGE?

To comply with COVID-19 safety measures, all CUNY EDGE activities will be carried out remotely for the foreseeable future.

The Human Resource Administration (HRA) assigns students who are matriculated at Brooklyn College and who receive public assistance to the CUNY EDGE program. Currently you may complete an application for cash assistance via the Access HRA website. Normally, HRA requires students to complete a school letter (HRA 154) at the start of each semester, which confirms a student's enrollment with CUNY. Once assigned to CUNY EDGE by HRA, new students can complete and submit the Online School Letter request form. New students should also complete the forms in our New Student form section and submit them via e-mail. The CUNY EDGE Office will contact you when your letter is ready. Continuing students may apply for the School Letter online by completing this form. Be aware that the letter is valid for 30 days from the day it is created and must be submitted to the appropriate HRA Office before that date. We will submit your letter electronically once you have e-mailed us your permission to do so. Submit your request for a School Letter as early as possible in the semester to ensure that you receive transportation and childcare support in a timely fashion. Please note that transportation and childcare may not be provided if classes are being held remotely. Students are also required to submit a student contract (pdf) each semester.

Students will meet remotely with program advisers at least once a month for engagement to discuss and set goals for academic, professional, and personal progress. Students may also attend workshops remotely to fulfill their monthly engagement.

HRA requires that classroom activities, homework hours, internships, and Federal Work-Study hours are reported for CUNY EDGE students. If students miss class, they are required to submit absence documentation to the CUNY EDGE office.

For more information, please e-mail us.
